Regatta Committee Corner
Regatta Committee Corner
The Regatta Committee is responsible to organize and supervise all racing activities of Club sponsored regattas. The Regatta Committee focuses on building teams of IHYC member volunteers to organize and run the racing, called the Race Committee (RC). There are a number of roles on RC: Principal Race Officer (PRO), mark setter, wind reader, line sighter, scorer, sounder, spotter/recorder, signaler, timer, boat operator and more.
Whether you sail or not, you can get out on the water, perform one of the RC roles, enjoy watching a regatta up close, and spend time with old and new friends. If you can raise a flag, countdown from either 5 or 3 minutes, and spot and record sail numbers from near and far, then you can participate on RC. For those who sail, RC provides you a perfect vantage point to pick up racing tactics, understand the signals, refine your racing rules knowledge, and give back to your fellow sailors.
Be a part of the exciting regattas hosted by IHYC for junior sailors, one designs, classic yachts and our champions. This year, we have a number of regattas that you can be a part of and further expand on your IHYC experience. Let's show how IHYC not only has expertise in sailing, but can also organize and execute high quality, well-run regattas with top notch Race Committees.
Here's how to get involved with Race Committee:
1. Review the regatta listing for the regattas, dates and Principal Race Officers (PRO).
2. Learn more about each regatta from this overview document or visit the regattas listed
under the Regatta tab.
3. Tell us which regatta you’d like to participate on the Race Committee via the Race
Committee Sign Up page
4. Learn More about each Regatta with Racing Event Description

The Regatta Committee will get back to you with your RC assignment and post the overall 2013 Race Committee Assignment List.
The Regatta Committee Chair and/or PRO will contact you prior to the race with logistics and assignments. They guide you about your role and how the team will work together to support the race.
