About the Program

Founded 25 years ago, Indian Harbor Yacht Club’s Focus on Sailing program offers active and summer members and their families easy access to recreational sailing, sailing instruction, and competitive racing in the club's fleet of Ideal 18 sailboats. The program is designed for all sailors, from beginners to experienced racers, to learn and enjoy one-design sailing and racing with activities overseen by the sailing director and the Focus on Sailing Committee.

Something for Everyone!

The IHYC Focus on Sailing program includes programming for all levels of sailor - from the total novice getting on the water for the first time, to advanced racers looking to take their sailing to the next level. A comprehensive clinic and racing schedule is available through the IHYC Calendar. FOS is included as part of the Summer Membership and existing IHYC members also can enroll. About the Boat

The Ideal 18 is an open keelboat which is easily operated single-handed with its self-tacking jib, or competitively raced with two or three people using its spinnaker. The boat can seat up to four adults or two adults and several children, making it perfect for family daysailing.
