The traditional IHYC Sailing Association New Year's Day Regatta was held last Sunday under clear blue skies. The convincing winner was Pierce Ornstein, who got to throw out
a second
place, for a total of eight points from seven races! The previous generation was also represented on the podium, with IHYC First Gentleman Jonathan Nye in second and David Ornstein in third.

Other two-generation families racing against each other in the light and shifty north-westerly
breeze
were Kate van Loveren and her parents, Fleet Captain Karen Lau and Roger van Loveren; the Nye's new son-in-law, Kyle Assad, and Jonathan Nye; and Michael and Ben Millard. It's always great to see members' children out racing, not only because of their participation but also because they tend to be fierce competitors, showing their parents no quarter.

The most unusual two-generation representation was the Schwoerer family, visiting IHYC aboard
Pachamama
, fresh from a trip through the Bering Strait, across the top of Canada and down through the Northwest Passage. The Schwoerer's managed to fit one adult and three children on a 9 ft Dyer Dhow!
