This past Saturday Indian Harbor Yacht Club hosted the 5th Ideal 18 Interclub Championship of LIS, a bi-annual fleet racing regatta and club team championship. This was the largest Interclub Championship ever with thirty boats competing representing ten different clubs. It was also the first "international" version of the regatta with four teams participating from the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto.

Despite light wind conditions PRO Past Commodore Jeff Merz and the Race Committee were able to run three races throughout the day. Competitor Pam Washington from Larchmont Yacht Club commented, "We appreciate the effort made to be sure the event was fun and fair from start to finish." The top three finishers were Ian Brown and Dale King from RCYC in first, Eric Irwin and Mary Martrin from Mystic Mudhead in second and Roger van Loveren and Steve Lau from IHYC in third. Other participating clubs included Larchmont, Riverside, Stonington Harbor, Pequot, Wadawaunugk, Noroton, Old Greenwich Yacht Clubs and the Belle Haven Club.
The club with the top three finishers is awarded the team trophy and the privilege of hosting in two years. IHYC had several boats competing and won the team trophy for the fifth time in a row. Roger van Loveren and Steve Lau had a strong day of sailing with two fourth place finishes on Sierra to place third overall. Michael Millard and Christine D'Amico also placed fourth overall with one first place finish. Karen Lau and Lauren Toretta contributed to the team win, placing thirteenth overall.

After racing, competitors enjoyed post race festivities and awards on our beautiful South Patio. It's safe to say it should be another spectacular day of racing when IHYC hosts the next Ideal 18 Interclub Championship in 2021!
