Our New Sailing Director

We are thrilled to have Elizabeth Shaw O’Toole onboard as our new Sailing Director. Elizabeth has a compelling background in competitive sailing and event and race management.

Prior to joining Indian Harbor, Elizabeth worked with the Volvo Ocean Race and was (and continues to be) a contributor and US board member to the Magenta Project, an international organization focused on accelerating women in sailing. Elizabeth was also the Training Program Director for Oakcliff Sailing in Oyster Bay NY, a high performance training center geared toward offshore sailing, foiling, Olympic classes and match racing.

  • 2017 M32 World Match Racing Tour, Team Magenta - Alicante, Spain
  • PRO for segment of the 2017 M32 Miami Winter Series
  • Keynote Speaker at 2017 US Sailing National Sailing Program Symposium
  • On-camera host for media teams covering various international racing events
  • With co-skipper Libby Greenhalgh of VOR Teams SCA and SunHungKai Scallywag, they were the first ever female duo in the 2016 Atlantic Cup finishing third aboard Oakcliff’s Class 40
  • Qualified a team as skipper for the US Women’s Match Racing Championship
  • Skippered a youth-based crews from Oakcliff Sailing in many offshore races including the Newport to Bermuda Race
  • Worked on the race management teams for the M32 World Match Racing Tour qualifiers in Bermuda and the America’s Cup World Series event in New York City
  • Won the double-handed trophy on board a Class 40 in the 2015 Pineapple Cup (Miami to Montego Bay)
  • Bronze medalist in the 2015 World Sailing (then ISAF) Women’s Match Racing World Championship
  • Team member aboard the winning 2015 Women's International Match Racing Overall Series Standings team.
  • PRO/Head of Race Management for 5 editions of Chester Race Week; North America’s second largest annual race week (Nova Scotia, Canada)
  • Coached in the UK under the RYA (Royal Yacht Association) system
  • Handled communications for an Open 60 team
  • Director of Sailing/Race Director at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron

Elizabeth is a proud Canadian with an enviable sailing background. By the time she turned 30 Elizabeth had logged roughly 38,000 coastal and ocean miles. But it is Elizabeth's combination of that sailing experience along with her coaching/training, event promotion and management and race committee experience that makes us so excited to have her with us. Elizabeth looks forward to connecting with members and their families as she works alongside staff and volunteers to invigorate all facets of our sailing programming.
