Last Saturday IHYC Race Committee managed this year's Classic Regatta. An eclectic array of thirty six beautiful vintage to later day classic design boats competed. Yacht sizes varied from the graceful, with brightwork gleaming, seventy two foot Ticonderoga, down to Larry Sterne's bristol smart fourteen foot cat boat "Bow to Sterne."
Race Committee, under the very capable direction and guidance of Rear Commodore Ray Griffin PRO, and Dave Seabrook, Assistant PRO, started the regatta right on schedule in light air, with Dustin Bruce's first shotgun blast. With the sun eventually breaking out through the haze mid afternoon the winds picked up gradually, enabling all thirty six boats to sail their assigned courses and finish at a shortened course line at the green gong number "2." We wish to acknowledge and extend a big thank you to the rest of our Race Committee who volunteered for the day and did a great job as usual: Jane Ryan, Rusty McKee (Foolish Pleasure), Commodore Don Rotzein (Sachem Captain), Katty Parker, Rosemary and Ariadne Spahr, Mike McCormick (Foolish Pleasure), Mary Alice Carmichael (our forever photographer), Dave Kruse (flew in from Colorado for RC), Chris Becker (a Larchmont YC friend), Dustin Bruce (gunner), and your Chair Jack Kruse (Tomahawk). Thank you everyone for volunteering and for the professional way you carried out your duties. We enjoy a reputation on the Long Island Sound and elsewhere for that. See you on the water. Go team!
