While in Commission, each night at sunset, IHYC recognizes evening colors. This ceremony is comprised of a single stroke of the ship's bell, followed by a cannon signaling sunset and the lowering of the American flag. Everyone in the Clubhouse or within sight of the flagpole is to stand silently at the sound of the bell until the hail of "Carry On" at the completion of the ceremony. Each morning at 0800 a cannon coincides with the raising of the American flag for the day.
The conspicuous display of personal or business papers is not permitted in any of the dining or drinking areas of the Clubhouse.
