Regattas

The Club held its first regatta on August 26, 1895 and has maintained an unwavering commitment to racing ever since. The Club currently maintains an active regatta calendar, with opportunities for sailors of all skill levels. The schedule is book-ended by the Geartester in May and the Gearbuster in October, both of which are middle distance races open to boats rated under PHRF or ORC and certain offshore one-designs. Outside of the main sailing season, the Indian Harbor Winter Sailing Association has an active Frostbiting fleet that competes weekly in Dyer Dhows.

WOWLIS Interclub Supper Series

Wednesday Twilight PHRF Series: May 15, 2024 – September 4, 2024
- This season long series runs from May until September in conjunction with Old Greenwich Yacht Club, and is open to boats with PHRF ratings. The Twilight Series also includes Ideal 18 racing on a separate course.

The Geartester: May 18, 2024
- Starting and finishing off in Greenwich, the Geartester middle distance race gives crews a chance to tune up early in the season. Divisions include fully-crewed, double-handed, non-spinnaker PHRF+1, and one design.

Captain Harbor Friday Night Series: June 21, 2024 – IHYC
- June 7, 2024 – Riverside Yacht Club

  Each night of this PHRF series features a single race, typically between 40 to 60 minutes in length, hosted by a Captain Harbor club. The hosting Club offers post-race festivities for the competitors.

Law Trophy: July 1 – 2, 2024
- The Commodore Law Trophy Regatta, first sailed in 1929, is the first Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound regatta of the summer sailing season.

- The YRA Championship is a multi-fleet, multi-venue regatta for small one-designs, primarily Ideals and Lasers, inside Captain Harbor.

Lorna Whittelsey Weekend Series: September 28 – 29, 2024
- This weekend regatta consists of a Saturday fleet race followed by an awards dinner, and a Sunday distance race followed by an awards brunch. This regatta is a qualifier for the Watson Trophy Series.

The Gearbuster: October 12, 2024
- This classic 46nm race to Stratford Shoal and back derives its name from the typically lively weather in October. Racing includes fully crewed and double-handed divisions, as well as a shorter 19nm course for non-spinnaker divisions.
